Our first week in Uganda was comprised of many, many visits.  The Ugandan culture is made up of numerous tribal groups who each have unique practices and customs.  However, Ugandans as a whole are a communal culture who greatly values hospitality and having visitors.  Thus, making visits to people’s homes shows great honor and is a sign of authentic interest in their lives.  We attempted to make as many visits as possible during that first week.  Some friends knew that we were around, others did not.  The reception we received was so welcoming and so loving.  And the reactions from those whom we surprised was priceless.  Here are some photos from our visits:
Biajo  (gateman at my former residence in Kampala and my self-proclaimed "African father")
Juliet (house helper at my former residence in Kampala and now a dear friend)
Beatrice, Jimmy, and Sheila (Hope Alive! family who I keep in touch with from the States)
Beatrice cooked us a delicious local meal that is made for special visitors.
Grace, Jimmy, Sandra, and Oliver (Hope Alive! family)
On Saturday, Jeff and I also participated in the Hope Alive! Fun Day at the Kampala site.  We enjoyed playing games and spending some fun times with the students.  There were four teams competing against each other in various relay games.  After games, we had a delicious meal of local food prepared by Hope Alive! students and parents.  I also had an opportunity to catch up with many of the students who I had not yet seen.
This week, Jeff and I are traveling in Northern Uganda with our hired driver and a friend from Kampala.  We are having some fantastic adventures that we look forward to sharing with you at the end of the week!
