Return to Uganda

I meant to write and post this long before Jeff and I traveled to Uganda.  But life got busy and before I knew it, we were already on the plane.  (We closed on a house, cleaned out the apartment, and moved everything to our new home in the 10 days preceding our departure.  Can I use that as an excuse?)

We have planned all along to make a trip together to Uganda.  Jeff knew even before we were married that Uganda held a special place in my heart.  It has taken several years of prayer and hopeful patience, but finally God opened the door for us to make the journey this year.

Returning to Uganda (with Jeff) has been a long anticipated dream.  I last visited Uganda in the summer of 2011.  By the next summer, I was preparing for our wedding and the timing was not appropriate for another visit to Uganda.   For three years in a row following our marriage, Jeff has requested to take three to four weeks of earned vacation time in the month of August.  For the first two years, the request was denied.  Understandable considering his job, but frustrating nonetheless.  This year he requested any amount of consecutive vacation days that his employer would be willing to give him, ranging from two to four weeks.  Somehow, he got four.  We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity.  Let me just say that God is faithful... and I am confident that we are making this trip at exactly the right time.

The main point of this trip is to reunite with dear friends and to introduce Jeff to that part of my life which cannot be explained in words, as hard as I might try.  He has been so gracious and so willing to jump into an experience that is completely unknown and foreign to him.  He knew that this would take him far outside of his comfort zone, but has been open and willing nonetheless.  I am truly blessed to have a husband who cultivates my dreams, strives to understand my heart, and puts his love into action.  And I am beyond thrilled to share this experience with him.

We will be in Uganda until August 30th.  For those of you who pray, our main requests are 1) good health and safety during our time here, and 2) the cultivation of relationships with Ugandan friends.  We will use this page as our main source of updates.

Thank you to all our friends and family who have showed interest in our journey.  We did arrive safely on Monday night and have had a wonderful first week.  More on that soon.
