Murchison Falls

During our stay in Gulu, Megan and I were able to make a short visit to Murchison Falls National Park in northwestern Uganda. In the past, the area around Murchison Falls has been the site of intensified fighting due to rebel activity and the heavy concentration of government troops. In more recent years, as peace has temporarily returned to the area, it has once again become a site for tourists and nature lovers alike to drink in the immense beauty of Uganda’s pristine landscape. The park is home to a host of animals including giraffe, warthog, lion, elephant, water buffalo, hippopotamus, crocodile, and a variety of gazelle. Aside from the animals, the park also (as its name implies) is highlighted by a spectacular set of falls. I am posting some of the photos from our delightful adventures in the park for everyone to enjoy. We took a boat trip down the river, hiked around the falls, and even did some of our own “game viewing” by driving down less-traveled roads through the park. At one point, we even came across a giraffe that was standing in the middle of the road! (As we pondered how to pass, we were at least able to get some great close-up photos. The giraffe eventually moved as we drove our car closer.) Enjoy the photos.

  1. Hi Holly,
I am amazed every time I read your blog. You and the team over there are doing such wonderful things for the people of that region, especially the children. This experience will be one of the highlights of your life because of your involvement with the people. I know that you are experiencing hardships over there, and if there is anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask. God bless you. You remain constantly in my prayers.
    In Christ's love,
    Craig Varnadore
