Hello Friends,
I have now been in Gulu since Monday and everything is going well. Megan and I found a house to rent for the next few weeks and will be moving into it today. We were staying in a hotel for the first few days because the owner of the house wanted to clean it up and make some “improvements” before we moved in. Important improvements… like putting in a toilet (of sorts) for us to use. The house is in a village area near where our Gulu COH site manager - Alfred - lives, so it is good we can be near someone we know. There is no power in that area, however, we will have a generator to utilize at night. It's a nice house with plenty of space and we are happy to be living in the "village" instead of in the "town".
While we are in Gulu, pray that we can accomplish God’s purposes for us here. The need in this area is so great that I often I feel like we are doing very little in the grand scheme of things. Most children here cannot even comprehend the lives of relative privilege and opportunity that we lead in the United States. Coming from such a life of privileged, and now christened with the knowledge of the struggles here, the burden of responsibility is heavy upon me. I want so much to give back out of the blessed life that God has granted to me. Pray that I can do that effectively and appropriately.
My internet access will be limited for the next few weeks. However, there are a few “internet cafes” in town (like the one I am using now), that offer internet access for quite a cheap price. It’s likely that I’ll come occasionally over the next few weeks to check my email and such, so please feel free to still email me during this time.
Signing off for now...
- Holly
